Biography

Trey Wilson is a veteran of the American gospel music landscape, bringing more than 26 years of experience to stages across the country. Raised in the piney woods of Shelby County, Texas, his earliest influences came from small rural churches where gospel hymns, family harmony, and the Heavenly Highway Hymnal shaped both his voice and his life. His musical lineage runs deep, tracing back to generations of singers including the Campbell family, members of the Texas Gospel Music Hall of Fame. For Wilson, gospel music was never simply a discipline — it was an inheritance.

Wilson’s professional career reflects both longevity and versatility. He spent ten years as the lead singer for New South and previously held the same role with the Southern Plainsmen Quartet. Between his work as a solo artist and his years with New South and the Southern Plainsmen, he has logged thousands of performances and reached millions of viewers and concertgoers through live appearances, televised broadcasts, and national events. His vocal style — warm, soulful, and unmistakably sincere — has become his trademark, earning him a loyal following and widespread respect within the genre.

Critics and audiences alike often point to Wilson’s ability to communicate emotion with an uncommon level of honesty. His performances carry the weight of lived experience, shaped by seasons of hardship as much as moments of celebration. It’s that blend of vulnerability and conviction that gives his music its resonance, bridging traditional gospel foundations with a timeless, genre-transcending appeal.

In recent years, Wilson’s influence has moved beyond the stage. He is the founder of The Lone Cedar Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting men facing mental health and addiction challenges in East Texas and Northwest Louisiana. The initiative reflects a broader shift in his mission — from simply singing about hope to actively building avenues for it within his own community. Those close to the work describe his leadership as steady, hands-on, and deeply personal.

Today, Wilson continues to balance his musical pursuits with his commitment to community impact. His story — rooted in faith, informed by experience, and driven by purpose — represents a modern portrait of resilience. Whether performing under bright lights or working quietly behind the scenes, he remains anchored by a singular message: that hope is real, grace is greater, and no matter how far you’ve gone, you can always come home.
